iQhayiya Design Workshop is a design orientated firm with ambitions to be widely acclaimed nationally and internationally through servicing the needs of South Africa and the continent in the large infrastructure deficits that exist throughout communities. iDW has strategically set its business to focus on servicing the Public Sector market as there is a large scope for its service offering. Some of the work completed work ranges are the IHLM Municipal Offices, Eastern Cape Social Development Offices at Matatiele, uMzimkhulu Traffic Department, Polile Police Station, Low-cost human settlements, various Community halls, Agro-processing incubation hub, and a Bus maintenance depot. Some of our large current projects include the UIF Head Office in Sunnyside, Pretoria, Mbizana Civic Centre, uMzimkhulu Memorial Hall, several municipal sports & recreational facilities and a township SMME incubation hub with eThekwini’s City Architects Department.
IDW was registered by Kayalethu Qwalela in 2006 during post-graduate studies to service a need that he had identified in his rural home town Flagstaff. The town was bursting at the seams with overcrowding of vehicles on the sole street that defined the CBD and the municipality heeded a call for submissions from reputable companies and this sparked the creation of the business. Mfundo Maphumulo bought into the vision and joined the practice as both individuals shared a keen sense of entrepreneurialism and philanthropic ambitions. Kaya and Mfundo met at the Tshwane University of Technology where they became very close friends over the course of their post-graduate studies and well beyond. Official trading started in 2012 when all the statutory requirements boxes for a professional business were ticked.
